The mortality rate in pre-trial detention facilities and prison colonies of Kyrgyzstan has decreased for 20 years. Study published by the National Center for Prevention of Torture says.
According to its data, if in 2003 about 292 people died in the facilities of the Penitentiary Service, the number of deaths in 2010 and 2021 was 90 and 46 respectively. The decrease in the prison population must also be taken into account, that is, the data must be correlated with the total number of prisoners over a certain period of time.
It is also reported that, according to the official data of the State Penitentiary Service, 151 people died from 2019 to 2021 in remand prisons, correctional and juvenile correctional facilities of the republic.
