Children's rehabilitation center opened on site of Bakiyev's mansion

President Sadyr Japarov took part in the opening of a children’s rehabilitation center built on the site of the mansion of the fugitive president Kurmanbek Bakiyev.

In his speech, Sadyr Japarov noted that Kyrgyzstan had ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

«The republic seeks to implement the norms on providing people with disabilities with education, work and recreation. We are trying to ensure equal rights for all Kyrgyzstanis. Measures in this direction are also enshrined in the state development program until 2026. Today we open a rehabilitation center. This is a good event. The center is aimed at the physical and psychological recovery of children with disabilities,» Sadyr Japarov said.

The President stressed that the rehabilitation center was designed for 100 places and the construction of such facilities would continue in the future.

«In order to provide support to people with disabilities, each person must change their inner world,» Sadyr Japarov said.

The mansion of the fugitive president was demolished in June this year.

Two buildings located on the same territory on Zhibek Zholu Avenue were burned down during the April 2010 events. The dilapidated buildings were empty for a long time. Then disabled people settled there. After the revolution, they turned to the interim government with a request to officially transfer the mansion to them. However, no positive response was received. Later, the house of the fugitive head of state turned into a home for the homeless.
