Kyrgyzstan takes 100th place out of 140 in Rule of Law Index

Kyrgyzstan scored 0.46 points in the Rule of Law Index for 2022 and ranked 100th out of 140. Data of the international non-governmental organization World Justice Project, which compiles the index, say.

The ranking of countries is compiled taking into account eight categories, including the ability for democratic institutions to control state power, the level of corruption, the observance of basic human rights, openness of government, and others.

Compared to 2021, the republic has dropped one line down. Kyrgyzstan has the lowest score in the Rule of Law Index 2022 since 2015.

Kyrgyzstan has the worst indicators in terms of corruption (0.3 points and 127th place) and the criminal justice system (0.33 points and 114th place).

The country has the highest indicators in terms of property protection (0.74 points and 64th place). But even in it, the country dropped nine lines down compared to the ranking data for 2021. This is the worst performance since 2015.

As for the neighbors in the region, Kazakhstan takes the 65th place, Uzbekistan — 78th, Belarus — 99th. Russia takes the 107th. Tajikistan and Turkmenistan are not included in the rating.

This year, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden and the Netherlands are the top five most law-governed countries in the world. Haiti, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Afghanistan, Cambodia and Venezuela take the last lines in the ranking.
