Human rights activist Kamil Ruziev summoned to police for social media posts

Human rights activist Kamil Ruziev was summoned to the police for publications on social media. He wrote about it on Twitter.

According to him, he received a summons with a demand to appear at the Department of Internal Affairs of Issyk-Kul region on Tuesday. «I was threatened with initiation of a criminal case for human rights activities with publications on social media and Internet portals. I wrote about abuse of official position by the police officers of Tyup district,» Kamil Ruziev said.

On August 12, the Karakol City Court acquitted Kamil Ruziev due to lack of evidence.

Employees of the State Committee for National Security detained the human rights activist on May 30, 2020 in Karakol. The court placed him under house arrest. Kamil Ruziev was accused of using a fake medical certificate. According to investigators, the human rights activist allegedly did this in order to extend the deadline for appealing against the decision of the Karakol City Court in one of the cases on which he worked. However, in 2021, the examination confirmed that the certificate was real.
