Interaction of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) with the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is one of the most promising areas. Vladimir Kovalev, Advisor to the Chairman of the EEC Board, shared this opinion at the online conference «Deepening Cooperation between EAEU and SCO».
«The GDP growth of the SCO countries amounted to 8 percent in 2021. This year, the economic leaders in the SCO — China and India show a positive trend. This cooperation is one of the most promising areas for the EAEU today,» the adviser said.
He noted that Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are members of the SCO, Belarus is gradually moving towards joining it and Uzbekistan is an observer at the EAEU.
«The trade turnover between the EAEU and the SCO countries that are not members of the union reached $200 billion last year. The share of the countries of the SCO in the total aggregate trade turnover of the states of the Eurasian Union is about 24 percent,» Kovalev said.
An agreement on cooperation was signed earlier in Samarkand (Uzbekistan) on the construction of China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.
