Residents of Shukurov Street protest against mayor of Bishkek

Residents of Shukurov Street in Bishkek hold a rally against the mayor of the capital, Emilbek Abdykadyrov.

According to the protesters, the City Hall, without notifying the residents, made a change to the project for the reconstruction of Shukurov Street, approved in 2017, according to which the road moved to the side where the even-numbered houses are located.

Owners of the houses claim that the reconstruction of the road and sidewalks can be carried out without demolition of the fences of private houses.

«Road builders destroy and demolish fences of our houses. We have four hundred square meters of land. It turns out that we went beyond the line by 1.5-2 meters. But we have been living like that for 30 years. We paid taxes for these land plots. The mayor does not listen to us and instructed to demolish the fences of 71 houses. He and the vice mayor don’t talk to us. We ask the president for help,» said Saadat Ormonova.

Residents noted that they had previously applied to the Presidential Executive Office on this issue. They asked the mayor Emilbek Abdykadyrov to hold a meeting with the townspeople to resolve the situation.

However, according to the protesters, the mayor ignores the request of the Presidential Executive Office, in connection with this they demand resignation of the official.
