Construction of Balykchy - Kochkor railway 70 percent completed

Construction of Balykchy — Kochkor railway is 70 percent completed. The Public Relations Department of Kyrgyz Temir Zholu state enterprise reports.

The first stage in the implementation of Balykchy — Kochkor — Kara-Keche project is the construction of a section of Balykchy — Kochkor railway with a length of 63 kilometers.

It is planned to build 5 kilometers of the railway in 2022, 70 percent of the work has been completed. By the end of the year, the company plans to build another 3 kilometers of the railway.

One of the difficult areas is excavation work on Boz-Barmak ridge. The length of the excavation is about 600 meters, the depth is 16-17 meters, the height of the slope is 70 meters.

During the work, burial mounds dating back to the 3rd century BC were discovered, archaeological research is underway.

«The project is of great social and economic importance due to the creation of the least costly way to transport coal from Kara-Keche field to provide the population and the Bishkek Heating and Power Plant with fuel in the autumn-winter period,» the statement says.

Coal from Kara-Keche field is now transported by road to Balykchy station with further transportation by rail to Bishkek and other settlements in the north of the republic.
