The central mosque in Bishkek, located on Moskovskaya Street, will be demolished. The Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims of Kyrgyzstan (SDMK) confirmed the information to 24.kg news agency.
According to it, the muftiyat plans to construct a new building of the mosque.
«We develop a design of a new building. Demolition of the mosque will begin soon. We will preserve the old mosque only, which is included in the list of historical buildings. While construction is going on, the kaziyat of Bishkek will work in another place,» the SDMK said.
The estimate for the new building is not yet known. Muftiyat is looking for sponsors.
«When constructing a new building, we will take into account the conditions for car parking. As you know, traffic jams form around the mosque on Fridays, which causes inconvenience to the citizens,» the muftiyat noted.
