Bishkek City Hall plans to move railroad outside capital

Bishkek City Hall plans to move the railroad outside the capital. Mayor of the capital Emilbek Abdykadyrov said at a session of the Bishkek City Council during the presentation of development strategy «Bishkek-2026. Landscaped and green capital.»

He admitted that it is ambitious, but quite doable.

«These are not empty words. If there is a will, then everything can be done. I have already applied to the Cabinet of Ministers with a proposal to include this section when China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railroad is built. I also discussed the issue at a meeting with representatives of the World Bank, the possibility of obtaining a loan. If we get $1 billion for a long term, for 30 years, at low interest, why not. They got interested. We also discuss it with international organizations. This is a strategy, a perspective. That doesn’t mean that we will move it out tomorrow,» Emilbek Abdykadyrov said.

He added that in the case of removal of the railroad, industrial enterprises, industrial premises and warehouses would also be relocated. «It will be possible to use the territories they occupy to build houses. Instead of the railroad — an eight-lane highway and unload the city from the west to the east,» the mayor concluded.
