Run the Silk Road SCO International Issyk-Kul Marathon will be held on May 14. The Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy Azamat Zhamankulov told at a press conference.
According to him, this marathon has been held in Kyrgyzstan for many years. «This is already a branded event, many athletes know about it. It is planned that more than 3,000 people from 22 countries of the world will take part in it,» he said.
The head of the directorate of the international marathon Melis Nadyrov added that four distances are provided for athletes: 42, 21, 10 and 3 kilometers. The winners who take the first six places will get cash prizes.
«The Issyk-Kul marathon has become a landmark, because it is part of the SCO marathon series. In addition, we have a track certificate from the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races. This makes it possible to secure a berth at the Olympic Games when meeting the standards,» he added.
