Representatives of Bir Duino Kyrgyzstan Human Rights Center appealed to the President of the country.
According to them, the courts, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Committee for National Security openly ignore the issue of restoring the violated rights of the human rights activist Azimzhan Askarov, who died in the prison colony No. 47 and was deprived of the right to access timely and high-quality medical care.
«The State Committee for National Security (SCNS) evades investigation of the facts of torture and systemic discrimination by law enforcement officials against the human rights activist, whose death in the prison colony No. 47 is equated with extrajudicial execution,» the appeal says.
Bir Duino Kyrgyzstan appeals to the head of state with a request to assist in the restoration of justice, to conduct an independent investigation into the death of Azimzhan Askarov, as well as for the implementation by the republic of the recommendations of the UN Committee on Human Rights to rehabilitate his name and pay compensation to his family.
Azimzhan Askarov died in hospital of the prison colony No. 47 on July 25, 2020. According to the conclusion of the medical examination, his death was caused by acute respiratory failure.
The criminal investigation into the death of the human rights activist was resumed in September 2021. First, the State Penitentiary Service conducted the investigation, and then the case was sent to the State Committee for National Security.
