Kyrgyzstan intends to initiate development of mountain regions

Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Talant Mamytov met with Margareta Cederfeldt, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) and Swedish MP.

According to the press service of the Parliament, the sides discussed issues of development of partnership within the OSCE, strengthening relations between Kyrgyzstan and Sweden, in particular inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Talant Mamytov noted that Kyrgyzstan is interested in expanding political dialogue with the European Union, including Sweden, as well as strengthening comprehensive ties.

«This year we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. During this time, we have gone through a fruitful path of cooperation and confirm our readiness for further interaction with you,» he said, stressing the importance of intensifying partnership at the level of parliamentary friendship groups.

The Speaker also told about the work being done within the framework of the UN and its development program. According to him, Kyrgyzstan will initiate a resolution of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly to declare 2023-2027 as «Five-year action for the development of mountain regions».

Talant Mamytov asked to support the draft resolution, as well as to actively participate in these activities.

Margareta Cederfeldt noted that the OSCE and Sweden attach great importance to comprehensive cooperation with Kyrgyzstan. «I hope that this meeting will contribute to the further development of partnership,» she said.

The Swedish MP also touched upon the development of inter-parliamentary relations, activation of friendship groups and organization of bilateral visits, adding that all proposals will be taken into account.

Participants of the meeting also discussed quotas allocated for women in Parliament and in general issues of increasing their political participation.
