Day center for elderly opens in Baizak village, Issyk-Kul region

A day center for the elderly was opened in Baizak village, Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. Press service of the Ministry of Labor, Social Security and Migration reported.

According to it, the center was created with the assistance of the ministry, head of Tyup district, Kemenger Public Foundation and Baizak Youth Union Public Association for organization of leisure of senior citizens. Literary and other creative circles, amateur courses will work there for the senior residents of the village. Up to 20 people can spend time in the center at the same time.

Kudaibergen Bazarbaev, Minister of Labor, Social Security and Migration, handed over musical instruments, soft and office furniture, TV, computer with printer, kitchenware and medicines to the center on behalf of the President. He noted that the state intends to radically change its policy toward senior citizens.

«There are 331,500 citizens aged 65 and older in Kyrgyzstan, which is 5 percent of the total population,» he said.

The ministry has launched a policy of active longevity that will allow people to live a full life after retirement.

«Significant changes have been made to the law on senior citizens, we offer senior citizens to participate in the patriotic education of the younger generation, to pass on their knowledge and experience,» he said.

The minister added that it is no accident that the first decree of President Sadyr Japarov was the decree «On the spiritual and moral development and physical upbringing of the individual,» which emphasized the special role of the older generation in the preservation and handing over national values. «Today we want to approve by law equal opportunities for the elderly to receive education, it is proposed to provide state support for the entrepreneurial activities of senior citizens. State bodies are given the right to involve elderly citizens with extensive experience in the relevant spheres to solve sectoral problems. In general, we intend to eradicate stereotypes and discrimination against the elderly citizens,» Kudaibergen Bazarbaev noted.

The head of the ministry noted that the new social policy starts from Tyup district, the birthplace of Batysh Salieva, who was twice the Minister of Social Security (25 years in total) and had a significant impact on the formation of the social protection system. The ministry intends to open similar centers in other villages of the country.
