Cabinet of Ministers plans to launch pilot solar power plant project

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan plans to launch a pilot project for the construction of a solar power plant. The announcement was made at a meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Aaliev with the delegation of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) led by Muneer Ferozie, the Regional Manager for Transaction Advisory Partnerships for the Middle East, Central Asia, Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, the sides discussed topical issues of cooperation, including the development of projects in the field of energy in the format of public-private partnership.

Aziz Aaliev said that the republic was aimed at developing projects in the field of renewable energy sources, and emphasized interest in the implementation of a pilot project with the assistance of the IFC to build a solar power plant with a capacity of 100 MW. According to him, it is important to use the positive experience of introduction of renewable energy sources in the implementation of successful projects in neighboring countries.

Muneer Ferozie expressed readiness for further partnership in implementation of projects in the field of energy.

A working group will be created to study the possible issues.

Earlier, the Prime Minister Akylbek Japarov discussed with IFC the upcoming modernization of Manas International Airport.

IFC is an international financial institution, part of the World Bank. It is headquartered in Washington DC. It was established in 1956 with the aim of ensuring a steady flow of private investment into developing countries.
