«Appointment as mayor of Bishkek came as a surprise to me,» Mayor of Bishkek Emilbek Abdykadyrov said at a press conference.
He noted that he had previously worked at the municipality, was a deputy of the Bishkek City Council, so he is familiar with the work.
«I want Bishkek to look like a city, not a village. I am well aware that the mayor is a responsible position. It is not power, but responsibility,» he said.
Emilbek Abdykadyrov said he would rely on professional personnel. «Professionals, rather than countrymen, relatives or schoolmates, should work, it is my opinion. Only then development will take place,» he said.
Aibek Dzhunushaliev was relieved of his duties as Bishkek mayor and appointed head of the Presidential Administration’s Department for Monitoring Implementation of Presidential Decisions and the Cabinet of Ministers. Emilbek Abdykadyrov became a new mayor of the capital.
