The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan decided to oblige all civil servants to use the services of mobile services provider MegaCom only. This information was confirmed by some officials.
According to them, the Cabinet recommends to buy SIM cards of MegaCom and use the services of this company to support the domestic provider. A deadline was set for the officials — they are obliged to do it until January 1, 2022.
According to official data, the total number of civil servants in Kyrgyzstan is at least 18,500 people.
MegaCom company promised to comment on the Cabinet’s decision later, but stressed that it is only a recommendation, without any coercion.
In July 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers intended to implement another program of privatization of state-owned enterprises and once again raised the issue of sale of Alfa Telecom (MegaCom trademark). The Cabinet spoke for sale of 100 percent of the shares of the mobile services provider. The then Deputy Minister of Investments Nuradil Bayasov confirmed this information to MPs.
