Number of marriages decreased by 19.6 percent in Kyrgyzstan due to restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 compared to 2019. Results of a study conducted by the National Statistical Committee say.
At the same time, there were no differences in the frequency of marriages between urban settlements and rural areas. The largest number of marriages is registered in the 20-29 age group, both among women and men (about 70 percent of the total number of registered marriages).
Not all registered marriages are lasting. Almost every fourth marriage breaks up: there are 162 divorces per 1,000 marriages in rural areas, while their number is 2.2 times higher in urban areas.
In 2020, the average age at first marriage was 23.4 years for women and 27.2 years for men. Compared to 2016, the marriageable age for women decreased by 0.2 years, while for men, on the contrary, it increased by 0.1 years.
