Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to launch single tourist visa in 2019

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are planning to launch a single Silk visa in February 2019. Acting First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee of Tourism of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Kasymkhodzhaev stated at a meeting with journalists. Kazinform reports.

According to him, the visa is introduced to jointly attract foreign tourists to the Central Asian region and popularize this route as a whole.

«According to our estimates, the visa should begin to work in February 2019. The Silk visa project has passed all approvals in the departments of the two countries, only technical details have remained, plus approval of equipment,» said Ulugbek Kasymkhodzhaev.

He noted that Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan were interested in the joint visa. The Kazakh side plans to involve Azerbaijan and Turkey in the project.

In June 2018, Dariga Nazarbayeva, Chairwoman of the Committee on Foreign Relations, Defense and Security of Kazakhstan, proposed Uzbekistan to create, by analogy with the Schengen, a Central Asian variant — Silk visa — in order to attract tourists to the region.
