Kyrgyzstan to reduce number of penal settlements in Kyrgyzstan

The Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev signed a government decree on the liquidation of the penal settlements of the State Service for Punishment Execution. The website of the government reported.

According to the document, the following three penal settlements are liquidated:

№ 35 in the city of Bishkek;

No. 37 in Sokuluk district of Chui region;

No. 48 in Alamudun district of Chui region.

The State Service for Punishment Execution told 24.kg news agency that production sites were to be organized at the place of the liquidated colonies.

«At the moment, a commission is being established to eliminate the colonies, and it will conduct an inventory of the property. Convicts will be transferred to other institutions. There are machines for the production of pasta in penal colony No. 35 and in colony No. 48 — equipment for the production of concrete blocks. We intend to expand the production and improve the conditions of detention in other penal colonies,» the ministry explained.
