Akhmatbek Keldibekov may not be registered as presidential candidate

Akhmatbek Keldibekov, former speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament, may not be registered as a presidential candidate, the CEC informed 24.kg news agency.

According to it, Akhmatbek Keldibekov has a criminal record, therefore, he can’t run for presidency.

The Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that the criminal record of Akhmatbek Keldibekov will be removed on November 8, 2017. «By a decision of the Bishkek City Court, he was fined for 10 million soms. This decision is upheld by  the Supreme Court on October 13, 2016. The decision on the fine was fulfilled on November 8, 2016,» the Supreme Court explained.

According to the Criminal Code, conviction is removed in respect of persons convicted of milder types of punishment than deprivation of liberty, a year after serving or execution of the sentence. «Thus, the criminal record of Akhmatbek Keldibekov will be removed on November 8, 2017,» the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic stressed.

Akhmatbek Keldibekov has already announced his intention to participate in the presidential race scheduled for October 15. His fellow countrymen supported the decision of the politician and wished good luck in the upcoming elections.
