Kyrgyzstan approves State Program for Development of Irrigation

The State Program for the Development of Irrigation in the Country for 2017–2026 was approved during the working meeting of the Prime Minister Sooronbay Jeenbekov, the Information Support Department of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

According to it, the director of the water management and land reclamation department Kokumbek Tashtanaliev noted that the program will allow allocating 65,700 ha of new irrigated land with the allocation of 58.8 billion soms, to increase water availability at 51,600 ha, to transfer 9,500 ha from machine to gravity watering and to improve the meliorative state of 50,000.

Through the distribution of new irrigated land allotments, about 242,700 jobs for the rural population will be formed.

«Possible GDP on new irrigated lands will be about 12 billion soms. It should be noted that the new irrigated lands will allow developing the processing industry and create a fodder base for livestock development," Kokumbek Tashtanaliev emphasized.

45 objects provided for in the state program are divided into three priorities, international financial institutions will be actively involved in their implementation.

Following the meeting,it was decided to approve the State Program for the Development of Irrigation in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2017–2026.
