Initiators of election law curtail rights of public observers

Initiators of the election law in Kyrgyzstan have curtailed the rights of public observers, the deputy Natalia Nikitenko said today at the session of the parliament.

According to her, the law on presidential elections at the last moment made restrictions in the part that only one public observer can be on the site. «Why are such amendments introduced? Why do observers make extras? This undermines the confidence that the elections will be fair," Natalia Nikitenko said.

The initiator of amendments Asel Koduranova explained that from the observers one person will be present at the site. «If they have documents that show that there have been violations against a candidate whose interests they defend, let them file complaints. We don’t prohibit this," the deputy noted.

Today, the deputies intend to approve the date of the presidential election.
