Bishkek to commemorate people died of AIDS

A campaign dedicated to the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Day, which is traditionally marked on the third Sunday of May, will took place on Friday, May 26, from 6.30 to 8.30 pm in the park at the South Gate of Bishkek.

The local stars were invited to the campaign, competitions for young people will be organized.

The organizers seek to increase the level of tolerance towards people living with HIV and to expand access to services (prevention, treatment, care and professional social support, testing).

According to the Republican AIDS Center, as of today, 7,287 cases of HIV infection were registered in Kyrgyzstan, 1,600 of them are in the death list. Most of the patients died from tuberculosis-associated infection.

There is an increase in the sexual way of HIV transmission. In some regions, the sexual transmission practically reaches 80 percent, and therefore there is concern that the incidence of HIV can actually break out into the population. And there can be a twofold increase in the incidence, unless urgent measures are taken.
