Kyrgyzstan to be able to provide itself with sugar in 2017

Kyrgyzstan will be able to provide itself with sugar in 2017, the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Land Reclamation Nurbek Murashev said at a meeting of the Committee on Agrarian Policy, Water Resources, Environment and Regional Development of the Parliament.

According to him, the country will be able to provide itself with sugar at the opening of Koshoy plant.

«If in 2015 there have been were imported 75,600 tons, the figure was 76,000 tons in 2016. Last year, Kyrgyzstan produced 704,000 tons of sugar beet. The area of ​​its cultivation in the coming year will even grow — to more than 14,000 ha," Nurbek Murashev said.

He noted that there are more than 240,000 farms in Kyrgyzstan.
