Large environmental cleanup: Volunteers clear 100 km of Issyk-Kul shoreline

A major environmental cleanup campaign took place on June 27, 2026, in Ton district of Issyk-Kul region, where volunteers cleaned a large section of the shoreline of Issyk-Kul Lake.

The event was organized by the Public Association Kyrgyz Water Motor Sports Federation, the State Agency for Tourism Development under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Zhashyl Dem NGO.

More than 1,500 volunteers collected tons of garbage and plastic that could have entered the lake or polluted the soil. The cleanup covered around 100 kilometers of shoreline, stretching from the village of Kara-Talaa to Tosor. The campaign also included popular tourist and natural sites such as Myortvoe (Dead) Lake, Uch-Chunkur, Kekilik, Manzhyly, Kadzhi-Sai, Aalam-Ordo, Sary-Talaa, and Skazka Canyon, among others visited by thousands of tourists each year.

Organizers said such initiatives help improve the environmental condition of Issyk-Kul’s shoreline, promote responsible environmental behavior, develop volunteerism, and support domestic tourism.

After the cleanup, a concert program was held, featuring speeches by the heads of the Water Motor Sports Federation and local rural administrations, as well as performances and entertainment for volunteers.

The campaign resulted in the cleanup of a significant part of the Ton district’s shoreline and the involvement of over 1,500 citizens in practical efforts to preserve one of Kyrgyzstan’s main natural symbols.

It is noted that all stages of the F1H2O World Championship strive to achieve a zero-carbon footprint policy.

«Through such initiatives, we are building a culture of respect for the environment, bringing thousands of people together around environmental issues and, most importantly, keeping Issyk-Kul clean,» the organizers added.
