Kyrgyzstan’s authorities continue negotiations with the state corporation Rosatom regarding the possible construction of a nuclear power plant. The First Deputy Cabinet Chairman Daniyar Amangeldiev said.
According to him, the current stage is not about launching the project, but rather about preparation — developing the necessary infrastructure and training specialists.
«We are collaborating with Rosatom on creating infrastructure and training personnel. Only after that we can consider construction,» he noted.
Amangeldiev emphasized that the final decision will be made with the participation of citizens. The issue is planned to be put to a referendum.
«We will consult with the people to determine whether to keep up with the times or not,» he stated.
The Cabinet of Ministers believes that the development of nuclear energy could be a key solution to the energy shortage. According to the official, economic growth requires increased capacity, and nuclear energy is seen as a stable energy source.
