Minister of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan, Kanatbek Chynybaev, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to the Kyrgyz Republic, Siroco Messerli.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), the parties discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation for the coming years.
Particular attention was paid to ongoing projects under the UN World Food Programme aimed at increasing the resilience of rural communities to natural disasters and climate change, as well as upgrading the capacity of Kyrgyzhydromet to improve hydrological forecasting and expand its ability to study glaciers and snow cover.
The Kyrgyz side expressed interest in establishing partnership with the Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research to implement advanced methods for monitoring and forecasting avalanche hazard, which are critical for Kyrgyzstan’s mountainous terrain.
Siroco Messerli confirmed the Swiss side’s readiness to consider the initiatives and proposals voiced by the Kyrgyz side aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation.
