Official explains when electricity consumption restrictions will be lifted

An official has explained when restrictions on electricity consumption may be lifted. The issue was raised by MP Zhumabek Salymbekov during a meeting of the Committee on Finance, Budget, Entrepreneurship and Competition Development of the Zhogorku Kenesh while discussing the agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the International Development Association on the Regional Electricity Market Interconnectivity and Trade (REMIT) program.

According to Deputy Energy Minister Nasipbek Kerimov, warmer weather is expected within a week, which would allow a transition to the summer operating regime.

The MP was not satisfied with the response and asked for a more specific timeframe, inquiring whether the restrictions would be lifted in March. The official replied that the matter is still under consideration, as sub-zero temperatures persist at night.

Earlier, the Ministry of Energy reported that starting in November 2025, electricity capacity for households has been temporarily reduced from 5 to 3 kilowatts during morning and evening peak hours via smart meters. Energy-saving measures were also introduced for government institutions.
