At the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) Business Forum in Almaty, Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Economy and Commerce, Bakyt Sydykov, stated that to attract investment, the country needs to accelerate the preparation of high-quality projects that meet international standards.
Speaking at the forum, timed to the 20th anniversary of the EDB, the minister noted that Kyrgyzstan possesses great potential in transport and logistics, energy, industry, agribusiness, and the digital economy. However, according to him, the main challenge is not finding investors, but rather preparing projects that are ready for investment.
«Today, our main constraint is the ability to quickly turn ideas into well-prepared investment projects that meet the requirements of international financial institutions and investors,» Bakyt Sydykov said.
According to the minister, competition between countries and regions in the coming years will be driven not only by financial resources, but also by high-quality ideas.
«Capital goes where there are prepared initiatives, transparent procedures, professional teams, and effective development institutions,» the minister emphasized.
Sydykov noted that implementing large-scale projects in Kyrgyzstan requires long-term investment and access to financing. In this regard, he assigned a special role to international development banks.
In his view, the EDB can become one of the key institutions to not only finance projects but also assist countries in the region with early-stage project preparation.
The minister added that the goal for countries in the Eurasian region is to create conditions under which promising projects emerge faster, are developed with higher quality, and gain earlier access to investment.
