A fatal case of counterfeit alcohol poisoning occurred in Turkey. The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul reported the death of six its citizens (five men and one woman).
They were 35-40 years old. All of them had minor children.
According to the latest data, 38 people were hospitalized on January 14 after drinking counterfeit alcohol purchased in Aksaray district of Istanbul. On the same day, the police detained two citizens of Turkmenistan, Agazkhan O. and Amangül D. They were producing alcohol in an apartment nearby. During the search, 50 liters of counterfeit alcohol, drugs, medicines and fake documents were seized.
An investigation has been launched at Küçükçekmece district prosecutor’s office; the detainees have been charged with causing death by negligence, forgery of documents, and production and sale of counterfeit alcohol.
