Deputy Speaker of Parliament meets with U.S. Ambassador

Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Nurbek Sydygaliev met with the U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kyrgyzstan Lesslie Viguerie.

He outlined a number of issues on strengthening political dialogue, expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation, and strengthening trade and economic ties between the Kyrgyz Republic and the United States.

«Kyrgyzstan is interested in attracting American investments, especially through the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and USAID. We have great potential for implementation of joint projects in the green economy, creative industry and information technology,» Nurbek Sydygaliev said.

Lesslie Viguerie noted that several large American companies operate in the Kyrgyz Republic, expressing their interest in developing cooperation in the areas of information technology, construction of hydropower plants and agriculture.

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament drew the diplomat’s attention to the issue of extending Kyrgyzstan’s status in the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP+). He also expressed gratitude to the American side for the decision taken on a parity basis to extend the validity of visas to 10 years, proposing to consider the possibility of extending the validity of student visas and adding the republic to the list of states that can obtain H-2 work visas.

In addition, given the number of Kyrgyzstanis traveling to the United States, Nurbek Sydygaliev proposed considering the possibility of opening a direct flight.
