Whooping cough incidence increases 2.2 times in Kyrgyzstan

Number of whooping cough cases more than doubled in Kyrgyzstan. The Department of State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance reported.

According to the department, whooping cough incidence has increased 2.2 times. Over the first 10 months of 2024, at least 3,116 cases were registered. About 1,386 cases were recorded over the same period last year.

Whooping cough is an acute anthropozoonotic airborne bacterial infection, the most characteristic symptom of which is a paroxysmal spasmodic cough. It is a dangerous infectious disease of the respiratory tract.

Experts also noted an increase in the incidence of scabies. The number of cases of the disease increased by 25 percent.

The increase in brucellosis cases reached 16.2 percent.
