$213 million to be invested in construction of Chatkal small HPPs cascade

At least $213 million will be invested in construction of Chatkal small hydropower plants (HPPs) cascade. Director of the National Investment Agency Talantbek Imanov told journalists.

According to him, agreements have been signed on public-private partnership (PPP) projects in the field of construction of small hydropower plants, including «Construction, operation and maintenance of the Chatkal small hydropower plants cascade: Bashky-Terek, Korgon-Sai, Chunkurchak and Aigyr-Dzhal» on Chatkal river in Kanysh-Kiya rural area.

The project envisages the construction of four cascades of small hydropower stations with a total capacity of 160 megawatts, and 1,800 hectares of land will be provided with additional irrigation.

«The leading partner is Grant Holding LLC within the framework of «project sandbox» mode. The project financing is about $213 million and it will be financed entirely by a private partner without co-financing from the state,» the official said.

According to Talantbek Imanov, an agreement was also signed on the PPP project «Construction of a small hydropower station on Aral river in Issyk-Kul district of Issyk-Kul region.» It is planned to build a small hydropower station with a capacity of 1 megawatt and an annual generation of 4.2 million kilowatt-hours, including providing drinking water to residents of Cholpon-Ata.
