Beijing hosts meeting of Intergovernmental Commission of Kyrgyzstan and China

The 16th meeting of the Intergovernmental Kyrgyzstan — China Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was held in Beijing. The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The meeting was headed by Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Bakyt Torobaev and Deputy Minister of Commerce of China Ling Ji.

The main focus of the meeting was on the development of bilateral trade, investment, mining and finance sectors. The issue of export of agricultural products from Kyrgyzstan to China was discussed.

Bakyt Torobaev noted that thanks to the efforts of the Presidents of the two countries, trade and economic cooperation has reached a new level. For example, in 2023, the trade between the states amounted to $20 billion, which is 32 percent more than in 2022. In the first seven months of 2024, trade reached almost $11 billion.

The official also emphasized the importance of China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway project and the recent opening of Bedel checkpoint.

The next step will be the modernization of the checkpoint infrastructure and the construction of Barskoon — Uchturfan — Aksu highway. Bakyt Torobaev highlighted the potential for further cooperation in the digital economy, agriculture, tourism and renewable energy spheres.

Ling Ji expressed confidence that the meeting would give new impetus to Kyrgyzstan — China relations, and noted the importance of developing e-commerce and increasing mutual trade turnover.

A protocol was signed following the meeting, which will serve as a roadmap for further work between the two countries.
