Construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway to begin in October

Construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is scheduled to begin in October this year. The head of the Capital Construction Department of Kyrgyz Temir Zholu state enterprise Ryskulbek Zhumabaev announced on the air of Birinchi Radio.

He recalled that the international project, as well as Balykchy-Kochkor-Kara-Keche-Makmal railway will become the main transport arteries of the country, which will solve two important tasks — formation of an internal railway network and the withdrawal of the Kyrgyz Republic from a geographical deadlock.

China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway will become one of the branches of the southern part of the Trans-Eurasian transport corridor.

It was previously reported that in accordance with the agreement, the planned railway will run along the route Kashgar — Torugart — Makmal — Jalal-Abad — Andijan. Its annual freight volume is expected to reach 15 million tons, and the time of delivery of goods to end consumers will be reduced by seven days.

On June 27, President Sadyr Japarov signed the Law «On Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Cooperation in Joint Promotion of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Project, signed on June 6, 2024 in Beijing.»

The Kyrgyz Republic intends to take a loan from Chinese banks for the construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway. The total project cost is $4,700 billion.
