The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan will receive a $9.2 million grant to support farms. Deputy Head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Kubat Kaseyinov, announced at a meeting of the Committee on Agricultural Policy, Water Resources, Ecology and Regional Development of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan.
He presented to the deputies a bill on ratification of the agreement on financing the project «Sustainability of Regional Pasture Communities — Adapt» between Kyrgyzstan and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
The project has national coverage and will support vulnerable rural households that depend on rangelands and forests for their livelihoods.
As part of the project, the Ministry of Agriculture intends to improve the health and productivity of livestock and pastures, as well as develop climate-resilient livestock communities.
The official also emphasized that the project consists of the following three technical components:
- Capacity building to integrate climate change adaptation and gender equality for resilient ecosystems and income sources.
- Climate-adaptive investments in forest and rangeland restoration.
- Development of climate-resilient alternative sources of income.
Having considered the issue, the relevant committee approved the agreement in three readings at once.
