The Turkish city of Iznik hosted a traditional cultural event dedicated to Kyrgyz warriors who fell in battles for the capture of the city of Iznik (then Byzantine city of Nicaea) in the XI century. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
The organizers were the Consulate General of Kyrgyzstan in Antalya, the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Turkey, consulates in Istanbul and Bursa, as well as activists and members of the Kyrgyz diasporas.
«As part of the event, a prayer was read in memory of the Kyrgyz soldiers, national sports games were held and a picnic with Kyrgyz cuisine was organized.
The diaspora of Kyrgyzstanis from the city of Istanbul installed a national Kyrgyz yurt on the territory of the memorial to Kyrgyz soldiers, which was solemnly handed over to the mayor’s office of the city of Iznik,» the statement says.
Ambassador Kazakbaev emphasized the importance of such events for the consolidation of Kyrgyz society and noted that the event was also timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Oblast. During the meeting, citizens were provided with consular and legal assistance and explanations on migration issues.
