“Smart” traffic lights put into operation in Bishkek

Implementation of a project on introduction of an automated traffic control system has begun in Bishkek. The press service of the City Hall reported.

Mayor of Bishkek Aibek Dzhunushaliev inspected the modernization of traffic light facilities at the intersection of Baytik Baatyr and Mederov streets and instructed to complete the work on time.

«The features of smart traffic lights are automated counting and regulation of the flow of cars, the ability to operate autonomously for up to four — five hours in case of a power outage, and energy efficiency (automatic adjustment of the brightness level depending on the time of day),» the City Hall said.

The project has already started on three streets — Tokombaev, Baytik Baatyr and Abdrakhmanov. At the first stage, sensors will be installed at 21 intersections, and then at 100. In general, the system is planned to be introduced throughout the city — at about 350 intersections.

«The introduction of the automated traffic control system will reduce traffic jams, reduce time on the road and create comfortable conditions for drivers and residents of the capital,» the City Hall added.
