A 12-year-old boy died of rabies in Osh city. Director of the Republican Center for Quarantine and Particularly Dangerous Infections, Stalbek Berdiev, confirmed the information to 24.kg news agency.
He stressed that the diagnosis was made clinically, based on symptoms. Since the parents refused an autopsy, it cannot be confirmed or refuted in the laboratory.
Stalbek Berdiev noted that during the summer holidays the boy visited his relatives in Uzgen district, where he was bitten by a dog. They did not turn to doctors in a timely manner and did not receive rabies vaccinations.
«Only when symptoms of rabies appeared they went to the doctors. The child was hospitalized and died a few days later,» he said.
The director of the center reminded that after being bitten by an animal, it is imperative to seek medical help and get an anti-rabies vaccination.
