Culture Ministry demands from Azattyk to remove 2 materials about Kempir-Abad

The Water Resources Service under the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan sent an appeal to the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy with a request to promptly remove materials under the headings «Uzbekistan intends to pump drinking water from Kempir-Abad reservoir» and «China intends to finance the delivery of drinking water from Kempir-Abad reservoir to Uzbekistan» from Azattyk Media website, as they contain inaccurate information. The Ministry of Culture reports.

It is specified that the materials published by Azattyk Media stated: «Kempir-Abad reservoir, formerly owned by Kyrgyzstan, was transferred to Uzbekistan in 2022». The Water Resources Service notes: «This information is fundamentally untrue.»

«The dam of the reservoir was built by the Uzbek side in 1965 and until 2022 was fully under the management of Uzbekistan. According to the agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan, since last year the parties have been jointly managing the reservoir (50/50)», the Water Resources Service reports.

The editorial office of Azattyk Media was notified of the need to remove materials from all platforms within 24 hours. In its response letter, the editorial staff of Azattyk Media informed that the materials had already been removed from all platforms of the site before the decision was received.

Earlier, the President of Kyrgyzstan gave another interview to the state media and criticized the Uzbek editorial office of Azattyk Radio (Ozodlik), calling it a provocateur.

According to Sadyr Japarov, the journalists tried to mislead people by saying that «Kempir-Abad used to belong to Kyrgyzstan».
