1.1 million children live in poverty in Kyrgyzstan

The poverty rate in urban areas increased by 0.7 percent in 2022 compared to 2021 data. The National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan reported.

At the year-end 2022, about 34 percent of city residents lived below the poverty line, in rural areas — 32.6 percent.

The overall poverty level in the republic at the end of 2022 was 33.2 percent. This is 0.1 percent less than in 2021.

At least 2,333 million people lived below the poverty line in 2022, of which 62.2 percent were residents of rural settlements. At the same time, 40.3 percent of children under 17, or 1,126 million people, lived in poverty.
