Manas Aiyly historical and ethnographic complex demolished

The historical and ethnographic complex Manas Aiyly was demolished in Bishkek. Only the tower and the entrance group have been preserved. Artist Anton Karmanov posted on social media.

Earlier, members of the Union of Architects of the Kyrgyz Republic appealed to the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Japarov regarding the group of the complex Kyrk-Choro Gate and the tower Tavro of Manas. They expressed their concern about the upcoming demolition of the facilities of the complex and asked for assistance in stopping the dismantling and maintaining these Manas Aiyly facilities.

The union noted that Manas Aiyly is of great cultural and political importance for modern Kyrgyzstan, as it is the first facility of this kind built.

The demolition of Kyrk-Choro Gate and Tavro of Manas tower will harm the overall architectural composition and lead to the loss of the entire object as a complex without these compositional elements.

Recall, the complex was transferred to the balance of the General Directorate of Bishkek Free Economic Zone in 1998. Manas Aiyly has been in a deplorable state for many years.

In 2019, the Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism, Azamat Zhamankulov, promised that he would study reconstruction options if Manas Aiyly was transferred to the balance of the ministry. In April 2022, it became known that the complex would be restored. Then the President Sadyr Japarov got acquainted with the reconstruction project. Later, a sketch of the project was shown at Bishkekglavarchitectura.
