Costs of construction of Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in Kyrgyzstan, in which Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will also participate, will be divided equally between the three countries. Kazinform reported, citing the data of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The ministry said that raising of funds from abroad was also possible to implement the project. Kazakhstan’s participation in the project is stipulated by the agreements reached during the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Cholpon-Ata last year.
«The project is planned to be implemented in accordance with the requirements of international project financing, within which the required amount of credit funds will be attracted. In addition, the Republic of Kazakhstan does not intend to provide state guarantees,» the official response of the Ministry of Energy to the media request says.
The parties are working on the issue of signing an intergovernmental agreement. It defines the main conditions for implementation of the project. As for public discussion and approval, the requirements of the legislation on international treaties will be observed.
The cost of the project and the main technical solutions have not yet been determined. A feasibility study will be developed for this.
«The main contractors from the Kazakh side for the implementation of the project are the Ministry of Energy and Samruk-Energy JSC,» the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan added in response to a request from MIA Kazinform.
On January 6, 2023, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan agreed on the joint construction of Kambar-Ata HPP-1. It should become the largest power plant in the Kyrgyz Republic, provide electricity to the countries of Central Asia and stabilize the water supply of the region.
