President addresses citizens on occasion of day of lifting of Leningrad siege

The President of Kyrgyzstan addressed Kyrgyzstanis on the occasion of the anniversary of the complete lifting of the fascist blockade of Leningrad. Press service of the head of state reported.

Sadyr Japarov noted that on January 27, 1944, one of the most dramatic and heroic pages of the Great Patriotic War was closed — the siege of Leningrad was finally lifted.

«The survivors of the siege demonstrated to the whole world not only courage, steadfastness and heroism, they showed an unprecedented example of the honor and strength of the human spirit. The history of the besieged Leningrad is the history of the greatest courage, selflessness, inviolability of friendship and unity of the Soviet people,» he said.

More than 16,000 people were evacuated from besieged Leningrad to Kyrgyzstan, including about 3,500 children, who were accepted and raised as their own children.

«Our compatriot from the village of Kurmenty Toktogon Altybasarova, who raised and gave maternal love to 150 children resettled from besieged Leningrad, became a symbol of mercy, valor and humanity,» he stressed.

The President added that more than 4,500 compatriots, along with other fraternal peoples, fought bravely and fell heroically in the battle for Leningrad.

To date, 12 survivors of the siege live in our country, who experienced all the hardships and sufferings of the war.

Sadyr Japarov

«We bow low to everyone who defended the besieged city with weapons in their hands, who worked in the ring of fire, who survived the terrible days of the blockade, survived and won. We will always remember the millions of people who gave their lives to save Leningrad, who died from hunger and cold, bombing and shelling. Eternal glory to the heroes — to all who, not sparing themselves, fought for the freedom of the Fatherland for the sake of peace on earth and the happiness of future generations,» he said.
