Bolot Temirov nominated for RSF Press Freedom Prize

Investigative journalist Bolot Temirov was nominated for the 30th annual Press Freedom Prizeof Reporters Without Borders (RSF) in «Independence» category. The journalist wrote about this on his Facebook page.

According to him, the award ceremony will take place on December 12.

«But, apparently, I will not get to Paris because of my travel ban and passports annulled by the investigator... There are, of course, more courageous and worthy candidates from Afghanistan, Liberia, Morocco and the Philippines. But getting into the top five is also a great honor. I hope this is the contribution of Temirov Live and Ait Ait Dese team to the international recognition of all journalism in Kyrgyzstan... and not only. People all over the world will pay attention to the very difficult situation with freedom of speech in Kyrgyzstan,» he said.

The Sverdlovsky District Court acquitted Bolot Temirov of drug possession, recognizing the evidence of guilt as not obvious and the investigation of the case biased, and did not find corpus delicti in his actions in the case of illegal border crossing, since the journalist used a real, not fake passport.

The journalist was found guilty on two counts — on using false data when obtaining a passport. He was charged with illegal use of a military ID to obtain an ID card (internal passport of a citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic) and illegal obtaining of the identity card. However, due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, the court did not impose penalties on him. Bolot Temirov was released from the courtroom.
