Foreign Affairs Minister of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev received the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas. Press service of the ministry reported.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of regional security, improvement of the activities of the CSTO, taking into account modern challenges and threats, as well as the preparations for the upcoming joint meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defense Ministers, the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils and the regular session of the CSTO Collective Security Council.
Touching upon the situation in the region, Jeenbek Kulubaev informed about the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border. He noted that the illegal actions of the Tajik side are an aggressive and destabilizing campaign that runs counter to bilateral and multilateral agreements between the two countries.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that thanks to the unchanging position of Kyrgyzstan on the need to resolve the entire range of issues between the two countries exclusively by political and diplomatic means, it was possible to reach agreements aimed at stabilizing the situation. He stressed the need to launch the existing CSTO mechanisms as soon as possible to implement the agreements on stabilizing the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, reached at a working meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the CSTO member states in New York city.
Jeenbek Kulubaev stated that Kyrgyzstan is interested in effective and mutually beneficial cooperation within the framework of the CSTO in all areas, taking into account the interests of Kyrgyzstan. In conclusion, the minister thanked the Secretary General of the organization for his responsible work and wished him further success.
Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 206 victims, 62 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
