The crime rate in Kyrgyzstan has decreased by 47 percent. The Minister of Internal Affairs Ulan Niyazbekov told at a press conference.
«At least 43,159 crimes were registered in the first half of last year, this year — 22,634. The number of crimes committed decreased by 20,525. The number of crimes committed in public places decreased by 16 percent. Age group from 29 to 49 years old accounts for most of the offences — 48 percent and from 18 to 24 years old — for 18 percent,» he said.
According to the minister, rates of violent and especially serious crimes fell by 30 percent, murders — by 6 percent, rapes — by 45 percent, extortion — by 63 percent, fraud — by 25 percent, vehicle theft — by 26 percent, and theft — by 39 percent.
«Some 204 extremist crimes were detected, 1,678 materials were registered, and about 40 extremist websites were closed,» he added.
Since the beginning of the year, the police have sent 9,891 criminal cases to court, which is 4.5 percent more than last year.
