Youth without supervision goes to fascism or extremism - Defense Minister

The Ministry of Defense proposes to open military colleges in every region of Kyrgyzstan. The head of the ministry Baktybek Bekbolotov said at a meeting of the Committee on Social Policy in Kyrgyzstan.

MP Shailoobek Atazov suggested promoting patriotic education in schools.

The head of the Ministry of Defense reminded that such work is already being done together with the Ministry of Education and Science.

«All deputy ministers were instructed to check schools and classes for patriotic training during visits. Together with the Ministry of Education we want to return patriotism to its former level. In addition, we propose opening military colleges in each region. Children in the 10th and 11th grades are left without attention now. Young people also wear swastikas not only in other countries, but in our country. If young people are left without attention, they go either to fascism or extremism,» the official said.

The Committee is discussing a bill on amendments to the law on veterans of war, Armed Forces and home front workers. The Defense Ministry proposes to equate the servicemen, who served on the Tajik-Afghan border in the 1990s, with war veterans.

The Tajik-Afghan border was guarded by 10 battalions of more than 4,000 people, the Defense Ministry said. There are currently 2,400 veterans.
