137,700 foreigners receive Russian citizenship, 3.6 percent are Kyrgyz

At least 137,700 natives of the former Soviet republics received Russian citizenship in the first quarter of 2022. Press center of the Interior Ministry of Russia reported.

«Russian citizenship remains the most attractive for the natives of former Soviet republics, the share of whom in the first quarter of this year was 97.2 percent, or 137,700 people, of the total number of people who acquired Russian citizenship. At least 39.6 percent of them are citizens of Ukraine, 23.9 percent — Tajikistan, 8 percent — Kazakhstan, 7.9 percent — Armenia, 4.7 percent — Uzbekistan, 4.5 percent — Azerbaijan, 3.6 percent — Kyrgyzstan, 3.1 percent — Belarus, 3 percent — Moldova,» the statement says.

In total, during the first quarter, about 141,500 foreigners were granted Russian citizenship that is 12 percent less than in 2021.

«Decrease in activity of foreigners who are potential applicants for Russian citizenship at the beginning of the year, as a rule, is caused by seasonal factor and objectively does not reflect the developing situation in the sphere of activity in question,» the ministry explained.
