Justice Minister of Kyrgyzstan Ayaz Baetov is in New York court. Zarema Askarova, first deputy head of the ministry, announced at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on budget, economic and fiscal policy.
According to her, Ayaz Baetov is testifying within a case on Kumtor.
«Today and tomorrow he will have a nine-hour interrogation, so he is absent from the committee meeting,» Zarema Askarova said.
Centerra Gold Inc. initiated arbitration proceedings against the government of Kyrgyzstan following the adoption of a law that allowed the introduction of external management at the Kumtor mine.
Later Centerra Gold Inc. — Kumtor Gold Company and Kumtor Operating Company — appealed to the court of the Southern District of New York. On July 7, Centerra Gold Inc. filed claims against Kyrgyzaltyn JSC, the largest shareholder of Centerra.
Earlier, the President Sadyr Japarov said that negotiations with the Canadian investor over a settlement agreement were underway.
